Theragnostics - Preparation Requirements
TOTAL DURATION OF STUDY:
Total expected time for the procedure, including preparation, administration, uptake period, and imaging. Depends on the type of tumour, radionuclide and tracer.
Example:
Approx. 4–6 hours (including tracer administration and post-therapy monitoring). However, depending on the type of tumour. This may vary from 4 hrs up to 48 hrs.

PREGNANCY:
Please confirm pregnancy status prior to procedure.

Contraindicated in pregnant patients.

A negative pregnancy test is required within 24 hours for women of childbearing potential.
BREAST FEEDING:

Discontinue breastfeeding for at least 24 hours post-procedure (duration may vary with isotope).

Express and discard milk during this period.
- Depending on the treatment, breast feeding may be discontinued.
MEDICATION:

Review all current medications with physician.

Somatostatin analogues, androgen-deprivation therapy, or chemotherapy may require temporary discontinuation prior to study—follow specialist advice.
ALLERGY:
- No known allergic reactions expected to radiopharmaceutical components, but premedication may be considered if history of hypersensitivity.
BIOCHEMISTRY:

Renal and liver function tests within 2 weeks prior to procedure.

CBC if undergoing therapeutic study.

Serum creatinine and eGFR must be within acceptable limits.
DIET:

No specific fasting required unless instructed otherwise.
HYDRATION:

Encourage good hydration before and after tracer administration (e.g., drink 2–3 glasses of water).

Frequent voiding post-injection to reduce radiation exposure to the bladder.
