Theragnostics - Preparation Requirements

TOTAL DURATION OF STUDY:

Total expected time for the procedure, including preparation, administration, uptake period, and imaging. Depends on the type of tumour, radionuclide and tracer.
Example:
Approx. 4–6 hours (including tracer administration and post-therapy monitoring). However, depending on the type of tumour. This may vary from 4 hrs up to 48 hrs.

SCANNING TIME:

4-48hrs

PREGNANCY:

Please confirm pregnancy status prior to procedure.

  • Contraindicated in pregnant patients.

  • A negative pregnancy test is required within 24 hours for women of childbearing potential.

BREAST FEEDING:

  • Discontinue breastfeeding for at least 24 hours post-procedure (duration may vary with isotope).

  • Express and discard milk during this period.

  • Depending on the treatment, breast feeding may be discontinued.

MEDICATION:

  • Review all current medications with physician.

  • Somatostatin analogues, androgen-deprivation therapy, or chemotherapy may require temporary discontinuation prior to study—follow specialist advice.

ALLERGY:

  • No known allergic reactions expected to radiopharmaceutical components, but premedication may be considered if history of hypersensitivity.

BIOCHEMISTRY:

  • Renal and liver function tests within 2 weeks prior to procedure.

  • CBC if undergoing therapeutic study.

  • Serum creatinine and eGFR must be within acceptable limits.

DIET:

  • No specific fasting required unless instructed otherwise.

HYDRATION:

  • Encourage good hydration before and after tracer administration (e.g., drink 2–3 glasses of water).

  • Frequent voiding post-injection to reduce radiation exposure to the bladder.
