MIBG Scan - Preparation Requirements
TOTAL DURATION OF STUDY:
48 hours
SCANNING TIME:
Images at 4, 24 and 48 hours. Approximately 90-120 minutes per image.
PREGNANCY:
Contraindicated
BREAST FEEDING:
Stopped
MEDICATION:
list of medication to be stopped. Kindly have your clinician speak directly with Nuclear Physician for full preparation.
BIOCHEMISTRY:
Rising specific tumour markers, metanephrine levels
DIET:
No caffeine or adrenergic stimulating diet. Eat as usual. Bring a snack for duration of study.
THYROID BLOCKADE:
Due to radiopharmaceutical and free circulating iodine. Patient to be on Lugol’s iodine 1drop/kg up to 20 drops BD max (advised to drink with milk due to bitter taste) Begin 2 days prior to study and up to 3 days after administration.
HYDRATION:
Patient is encouraged to drink water prior and during study
